Organization

The Merchant Marine in Gotzborg fills a vital and necessary role in the continuance of commerce, trade and finances.  The merchant marine is engaged in the trade of goods within the Kingdom and without, for the government as well as business.  In addition it is managed much like a private company, bidding for cargoes from businesses throughout the world.  This provides the Royal Government with a revenue source for the Treasury.  The other role of the merchant marine is to act as a pool of ships which would be directed through the Home Office to provide transport as directed.

In times of war, control of the Merchant Marine transfers to the War Office, although nominal control is still exercised by the Home Office.  The War Office, in such times, utilizes the ships as additional vessels for resupply, troop & equipment transport, and in military trade.

The Merchant Marine is headed by the "Commodore of the Merchant Marine", who is appointed through the Home Office.  The Commodore acts as President of the company and manages the trade routes, revenue and business aspects of the ships.  As well, it is the responsibility of the Commodore to report to the Home Office once a year on the state of the fleet, requesting new or replacement ships as required or needed, presenting the case for new purchases as necessary.


The Merchant Marine is administratively located in Aremstadt, Aremberg within the Harbour Trade Building.
