Introduction

The original Gotzborg Army was formed from the Army of the Union of Seven Nations in 1703 however it was not officially composed as the Army of Gotzborg until 1795 when all of the Ducal Armies and retainers belonging to the more powerful nobles were ceeded to the King though act of the Parliament.

The Royal Army is compsed of four branches, known as the 'combat arms' of which all persons in the army belong to one of.  The branches are Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery, and Royal Guard.  The Royal Guard are the pinnacle elite combat arm in the army and provide protection to HRM and family as well as being available to conduct operations of special nature as required.  The core unit of the army is the Regiment.  Each regiment's make-up is different depending on what primary combat arm it is made up of.  During peactime each regiment falls under the command of a Military District, during wartime, these districts become Divisional commands which are in turn organized into Corps and fall under one of four armies: Royal Army, Army of the Courland, Army of Reichlau and the Reserve Army.

The primary component in the Royal Army is the Regiment, which is composed of Battalions themselve composed of Companies and Platoons.

(1st Regiment, Royal Guard Infantry)
King's Colours
also called 1st Colour, First Colour, Royal Colour, Senior Colour, Sovereign's Colour, King's Colour all refer to the same thing.

Every Regiment is provided with a King's Colour, which through its design and colour, dictates the regiment and combat arm to which it belongs.  Battle honours as may be granted will show upon it with a scroll listing the battle and date for which it was awarded.  The Colours are the embodiment of the spirit of the Regiment and are the most important possession of a regiment.  Historically the Colours were used on the battlefield in order to allow Generals to know where a Regiment was located as well as a rally point in combat.  Today the Colours are used on Parade and inspections and kept in the Regiment's home barracks.
